Cisco announced new optical courses: Cisco Optical Technology Intermediate (COTI) and Cisco Optical Technology Advanced (COTA) that replace the retired MSTP-FITP and MSTP-ATD courses.

Cisco ONS 15454 and Network Convergence System (NCS) 2000 Series transmission products are the industry benchmark for dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM), Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET) and packet transmission by Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Transport Protocol. Cisco Learning Services Optical Network Systems training offers industry-leading courses that highlight applications and implementations supported by the Cisco ONS 15454 and NCS 2000 Series systems.

The training portfolio was recently updated with two new courses. The existing Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Transport Protocol from Installation to Protection 9.6 (MSTP-FITP) and Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Transport Platform Advanced Topics and Data over DWDM (MSTP-ATD) courses were retired. The content from the MSTP-FITP course is covered in the Cisco Optical Technology Intermediate (COTI) and the MSTP-ATD was replaced by the Cisco Optical Technology Advanced (COTA) course. Both COTI and COTA are 3-day instructor-led courses (MSTP-FITP and MSTP-ATD were 5-day courses) and updated with more relevant content. The changes include focusing on the 40‑channel Single Module ROADM technology (COTI) and sections on adding a node and 10G encryption (COTA).

Another important change is also the introduction of the Cisco Fundamentals of Fiber Optics Technology (FFOT) self-paced video training that will be available on demand. The course is a fundamental-level training and provides an understanding of the fundamentals of fiber optics technology. This knowledge is prerequisite for those taking the Cisco Optical Technology Intermediate (COTI) course and recommended for anyone who wants to learn the basics of fiber optics.

Optical Network Systems training portfolio overview

These courses are aimed at technical professionals who are responsible for the installation, deployment, and maintenance of Cisco Optical Network Systems products. Network operations, planning and design engineers can also benefit from these trainings.
