16 students from Slovenian technical universities attended NIL's annual free training for the CCNA Routing & Switching certificate. The delivery is part of NIL's ongoing collaboration with students and universities.

From the 17th until the 21st of February 2014, NIL was once again full of students attending its annual free training for Cisco CCNA Routing & Switching certification. 16 students from the University of Ljubljana and the University of Maribor were chosen out of almost 100 applicants. During the 5-day course the attendees acquired fundamental knowledge on installing, monitoring and troubleshooting network infrastructures. The curriculum included Cisco switches, routers, the basic mitigation of security threats, an introduction to wireless networking concepts and terminology, and the use of fundamental protocols: IP, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), Serial Line Interface Protocol, Frame Relay, VLANs, OSPF, Ethernet and Access Control Lists (ACLs). The curriculum also included managing Cisco devices with IOS v15, Cisco licensing and extensive troubleshooting.

The course was delivered by NIL's consulting engineer and instructor Marko Tišler, who was especially amazed by the number of interesting questions he got from the curious students.

“The training was great and we learned a lot of practical things. Although we learn about similar things at university, we don't cover the topics in such detail and we don't have the opportunity to test our knowledge on real equipment.”

“I really like that the course is an intensive 5-day training that makes you stay really focused on the things you learn.”

“I would say only one thing to students who didn't apply for this free training offer from NIL: “What were you thinking?” It was a great deal. A lot of interesting information, a great instructor and a relaxed environment.”

Next to the studying and doing lab exercises, the attendees also become familiar with the infrastructure that runs the remote labs and get to know NIL's student group that operates the NIL Monitor system.

NIL has been organizing the free CCNA training for students for more than 5 years and their IP Primer online course has been part of the networking courses curriculum at different universities in Slovenia and USA. The company is constantly introducing new programs and opportunities for young people to get skills that will help them in their future careers.
