U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) included Cisco CCNP Security certification within the DoD 8570 Information Assurance certification matrix.

Effective as of June 30, 2017, the United States Department of Defense (DoD) has approved the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Security certification program as DoD Directive 8570 compliant. DoD 8570 provides guidance and procedures for the training, certification, and management of all DoD employees involved with information assurance and cybersecurity functions in their line of duty. These individuals are required to carry an approved certification for their particular job role and classification. CCNP Security is now an approved baseline certification for the Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level III category, and verifies the skills necessary for successfully working in this job position.

The CCNP Security program is a three-year certification program that is intended to distinguish the Cisco network security engineers who have the necessary skills to test, deploy, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot the Cisco network security appliances and Cisco IOS software devices that establish the security posture of the network responsible for security in routers, switches, networking devices and appliances as well as choosing, deploying, supporting, and troubleshooting firewalls, VPNS, and IDS/IPS solutions for their networking environments.
