Cisco announced the redesign of Cisco Professional-level (CCNP) certification programs and the evolution of the Cisco CCNP certification leading to the Cisco CCNP Routing and Switching certification. The changes reflect the evolving job market as well as the latest Cisco technologies. The certification changes are aligned with the recent updates in CCNA R&S and CCIE R&S tracks.

Implementing Cisco IP Routing (ROUTE) v2.0, Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks (SWITCH) v2.0 and Troubleshooting and Maintaining Cisco IP Networks (TSHOOT) v2.0 courses have been updated with several new IPv6 topics. Students will also learn about technologies such as StackWise, VSS, and DMVPN. The content of the courses has been adapted to Cisco IOS Software Release 15.

The major and exciting new change comes in form of labs that importantly increase training effectiveness: discovery labs enable students to learn about principles and technology in an even more interactive, hands-on approach, whereas challenge labs test students’ newly gained knowledge on real-life scenarios.

The new CCNP R&S v2.0 courses are not only technically updated and more polished than the previous versions – the whole approach to learning has been changed as Cisco incorporated labs into the teaching process and students are involved in hands-on lab exercises throughout the whole week.” said Tine Šparemblek, CCSI #34405, NIL Learning.

NIL significantly contributed to the shape of the new CCNP Routing & Switching courses. They are available as lab-intensive instructor-led 5-day trainings and are recommended for those who wish to pass the new CCNP Routing & Switching exams.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Can I mix and match the current exams with the newer exams to achieve CCNP Routing and Switching certification?

A: Yes you can. It is possible to mix version 1 and version 2 exams, however the TSHOOT 2.0 exam assumes knowledge of ROUTE 2.0 and SWITCH 2.0 topics. So candidates who have completed version 1 exams for ROUTE or SWITCH will need to review version 2.0 blueprints in order to prepare for the TSHOOT v2.0 exam. Use this tool to identify the combination of exams required to complete your CCNP certification
