Karen Sharpe is an Education, Training and Development Practitioner (ETDP) consultant, facilitator, assessor, Skills Moderator, and marketing manager – all in one person. When she joined NIL in 2009, Karen already had more than 12 years of experience as an entrepreneur and strategist; she had created her own learning and development company.
As a Learning Services Manager at NIL Africa, Karen’s responsibilities included launching and accelerating growth in Africa for NIL’s Learning division, which is a Cisco Specialised Learning Partner for Africa. The African office opened in Johannesburg, South Africa, in May 2009. In November 2010, the Learning division received industry recognition as a Cisco Learning Partner of the Year in South Africa. One month later, the division was recognized as a Cisco Innovation Learning Partner in MEA.
A graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Pretoria, Karen is also a fan of music and sports. Before starting her business and having a family, her big love was golf. She was also a competitive show jumper and three-day eventer years ago (with a few healed broken bones as reminders), and an active runner, cyclist and paddler. These days, she enjoys quieter activities such as spending a good bit of her weekends working in her garden. She is very fond of the outdoors and has taken a few trips into the African bush, armed only with camera, binoculars and a bird guide.
